Dr. Prakash Tunga P

Dr. Prakash Tunga P joined as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, BMS University, Bengaluru. He brings over 21 years of academic and professional experience, of which more than 20 years were spent at RNS Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, where he progressed through the roles of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Assistant Professor (all three grades) before serving as Associate Professor. He also held the position of Deputy Controller of Examinations for the autonomous setup at RNSIT from July 2023 to July 2026.

His research work centres on medical image processing — particularly the extraction, segmentation, classification and description of tumour regions in brain MRI images — using clustering methods, Support Vector Machines, DenseNet and U-Net architectures. His publications also span VLSI physical design for ultra-deep sub-micron hard macro-based designs, low-power clock network design, and embedded systems for intelligent safety devices.

He is a certified NPTEL Domain Scholar in both the VLSI and Data Science domains, has served as a reviewer for Scopus-indexed journals and several IEEE and Springer international conferences, and has chaired technical sessions at IEEE international conferences. He has been a resource person for AICTE-VTU Joint Teachers Training Programmes and handled courses in the VTU EDUSAT programme.
